Jesus used familiar images and examples to describe the Kingdom of Heaven. Some of the examples he used are a bit hard for us to relate to. This story, though, describes a scene that happens every day, all across America. In cities and towns, day laborers gather to wait for work. They hope someone will come and hire them. They count on the fairness and decency of those who pay them to work. It’s a hard way to make a living, but for many, it’s all they have.
Many communities object to day laborers gathering at convenience store parking lots or along the side of a road. Some town pass ordinances against such people. Nonetheless, they gather and employers come to hire them.
That’s the story Jesus used to tell describe the Kingdom of Heaven.
As you listen to the story, notice what catches your attention. What do you sense God saying to you, personally, through his parable?
