I was overwhelmed by the volume of people one morning at the Ministry of Home Affairs in Delhi. MHA is where everyone comes to renew their visa; mostly Afghans, Persians, and others from various nations across Asia.
As I scanned the room for a place to sit, my eyes fell on a young woman wearing Western type clothes sitting beside her mother who was wearing a beautiful hijab. My heart leapt and I sat down beside them.
“Where are you from?” I asked the young woman. “I’m from Iran but we live here” she responded. God had recently started stirring in my heart a love for Persians so meeting these two was a dream come true.
Again I noticed her clothes and asked “are you Christian?” The fact that she wasn’t wearing a hijab was a pretty good indication that she wasn’t a devout Muslim. I wasn’t prepared for her answer.
“No, but I’m close to becoming!” she answered with a big smile on her face and a light in her eyes.
As we talked more, I learned that she had two aunts living in our city. (I’ll post that story later 😊)
We exchanged phone numbers and a beautiful friendship began that day that continues to this day. She has since chosen to follow Jesus and I was honored to attend her baptism in Delhi where her sister and brother-in-law also committed their lives to Jesus.
