When I recently flew from Las Vegas to Newark, NJ, I met a very kind man who was also preboarding. We were early, and then our flight was delayed. He invited me to breakfast – he said he wanted treat me.
During our conversation, I learned that he had been one of the children evacuated from Cuba in Operation Pedro Pan. He was a classic gentleman, but you could tell that this separation had a major impact on his life. And, it still hurt him to his core that he and his siblings never got to grow up in the same home. I was so touched by our discussions. Mucho gusto, Otto!
You can read about Operation Pedro Pan on Wiki. There’s a documentary and a book about it, too.
