Shalom, such a powerful, all encompassing word. I am immediately reminded; God is Peace. Jesus is OUR peace. True peace is holistic, encompassing mind, body, soul. Peace defines God’s desire for our relationships within ourselves, with God, and with others.
What does this word evoke for you?
This week, as I meditated on God’s Shalom, the news reports were full of violent acts, lost crops, droughts, and war. True peace seemed distant, unreachable. Yet as I meditated on God Shalom, a sense of renewed hopefulness rose within me.
How does meditating on God’s Shalom affect you.
My Jehovah Shalom Images
I was drawn to God’s Shalom, first, in my personal relationship with God. So the pictures I chose represented my experience of finding peace in God. Then, I asked the question, “How do I express my God created Shalom image?” That led me to explore people as peacemakers in situations of collective trauma. God may lead you in a completely different direction.

Meditating on God’s Shalom draw us deeper into God’s Peace
We each experience the same God uniquely. That’s an amazing thing. You have your own living, breathing relationship with God who dwells within you. He speaks to you as you abide in him. And what he says, the ways he leads you, all represent his presence in your life and his activity within your heart.
What God wants to say to each of us, personally, is the most important thing for us to hear today.
We all may look at the same image of God. We can all agree on certain things. God is Shalom. Jesus is OUR Peace. We are called to be Peace-makers. God’s Shalom is holistic. All of these truths are clear from scripture.
With our full attention, we look at the same aspect of God’s character. We ponder, contemplate, meditate on this one aspect of God. The very act of looking with our full attention draws us deeper into God’s peace.
Why do we see the same aspect of God so differently?
We may all ask for an image, and each choose remarkably different pictures. We each find God revealing himself to us in unique ways. I have seen God’s economic Shalom in a lovely, fertile farm. You may see it in a thriving office. Or, you may not even be drawn to consider economic shalom. Instead, you might see shalom in an old couple’s embrace.
We see the same aspect of God differently because God is speaking to each of us, personally. We listen to God, then recognize what we’ve heard by the pictures we choose. My picture expresses what God is saying to me. Yours will reveal what God is saying to you.
When we see one another’s Shalom pictures, our vistas expand. We see more expressions of God’s Shalom and by looking, are drawn deeper into God’s peace.
