This week I went to a local playgroup with my son. I met a lady there who has just moved to the UK from Saudi Arabia. She didn’t speak much English and unfortunately I can’t speak Arabic, but we managed to ‘chat’ using Google Translate on our phones, as our boys played together.
We are both new to the city, and both mums of young boys, apart from that our lives are very different. That morning I hadn’t expected that God would bring a lady from Saudi Arabia across my path. It was a big encouragement to me to expect God to bring people across my path wherever I am and whatever I’m doing. God also challenged my ideas of having ‘ministry days’ without my son doing community work, and ‘days off’ looking after my son. Maybe God doesn’t make these divisions! Maybe my son is a vital part of my ministry after all! Maybe ministry is welcoming the stranger.
